If this doesn't constitute as sexism, I don't know what does.
Traditionally the FIFA World Cup has always been played on a grass surface. This summer Canada will host the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The tournament will be played as usual with a group stage and a knock-out round that will be played on a turf field.
Having played on artificial turf fields since I can remember, I can safely say I have had my fair share of turf experience, while still continuing to play on it, as my university’s fields are turf. Turf is not an ideal surface to play to play soccer on, much so that world famous footballer Thierry Henry, former FIFA World Cup winner has spoken strongly on this subject as he has played professional for New York Red Bulls for the past few years.
For those of you who have not yet had the experience to play on turf, the ball moves faster, bounces higher, and presents greater risk for injury.
This is why the US Women’s Nation Soccer Team has brought attention to the fact that the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) and FIFA have opted to play matches of the Women’s World Cup on artificial surfaces while the men and women have previously played world cup matches on a grass surface. Women soccer players feel that this is a matter of sexism, as if they are being used as a “guinea pig” for a World Cup on turf.
Many of the female athletes believe this is a case of sexism enough to push the issue into court. This is not the first case of suspected sexism by the organization. Also brought to attention that helped further the case of the female athletes, it has been reported that Sepp Blatter once suggested the women should wear tighter shorts, to appeal more to men.
In reaction, FIFA and CSA began to blame each other for the accusations of sexism. Neither association has begun to show interest in the women’s ululations. They have continued to ignore the complaints of many fans as well as the athletes. A statement was released by Victor Montagliani, president of CSA, stating “Our goal is, and has always been, to deliver a world-class competition that leaves a lasting legacy for sport, for women, and for Canada that reaches far beyond the competition.” The women have since dropped the case, but the issue still remains. But to the women’s advantage, a movement, “Our legal action has ended. But I am hopeful that the players’ willingness to contest the unequal playing fields — and the tremendous public support we received during the effort — marks the start of even greater activism to ensure fair treatment when it comes to women’s sports,” Abby Wambach said.
FIFA and CSA in many ways could switch to a stadium whose surface is grass, as the women do not get a field built for them every cup. But what FIFA had done wrong was ignoring the concerns of the women. These women have an equal say to the men regarding the conditions of the game. To add to FIFA and CSA, they put blame on each other as the both organizations agreed to regulate the women’s cup on a turf field. In order to create equality between the two, in game that is the same for all, both women’s and men’s cups should have the same standards and regulations of play.
We live in a world where sexism can be found in many places, from business to the turf. I stand by these female athletes that work just as hard as the men do, in hopes that they can lift a world cup just as the men do on a grass-playing surface. Where turf adds a different dynamic to the game that can make for a very different tournament from the men, when soccer is a universal sport.
The world cup is about coming together as a country, representing your nation, giving unwavering support. But has instead caused controversy to the equal playing field of men and women.

I guess doing too good of a job, means you're out of a job.
Coaches are motivators, master teachers, and tacticians. They are responsible to read the game, develop players and see the potential of the team. Victory is the goal but coaches are always the first to be blamed when the team does not perform to the fans and ownership’s group standards. Mike Petke fulfilled all these qualities that defined a good and successful coach.
It was no doubt that Mike Petke had a love and passion for the city of New York and his team, New York Red Bulls. Until recently, with no clear reasoning from Red Bull management group was dismissed as head coach, after two successful and productive seasons.
Petke’s has New York soccer in his blood after growing up in the area. Mike’s debut game in 1998 leading his team, formally known as the New York MetroStars, now New York Red Bulls, to a 1-0 victory against Chicago Fire in front of his home fans. As his career began to take off, he made his way through other leagues, making a name for himself. After a good run, he had New York written on his heart and decided to make his way back to the New York Red Bulls in 2008. Petke had announced his retirement at the end of the 2010 season. Soon after announcing retirement, Petke was named as an assistant coach for the 2011 season and in 2013 was deemed the club’s head coach, with the ambitions to build a successful victorious club.
As the head coach, Petke lead the team to their first major trophy, the Supporters’ Shield which means that they held the best record in Major League Soccer. He also led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals where they were knocked out by the New England Revolution. In 2014, he was able to develop the talent of former bench warmer, Bradley Wright-Phillips into the leading goal scorer and tying the league record for most goals in a season. He created a tradition and culture of winning. He had his city behind him as well as his players. It was only a matter of time until New York was to lift their very first MLS Cup.
Mike Petke’s dismissal from coaching the New York Red Bulls sent fans in an uproar, as there were no clear reasons presented as to why this had happened. Many spoke up against the club’s decision, and it quickly took the headlines of the soccer world. A week after the dismal, Petke spoke out, which had never been seen before, “I’m ok at this moment. It’s been an incredibly difficult time for my family and I, but in all sincerity, the messages that I’ve gotten, specifically from the supporters, have been tremendous, and it’s been an uplift, not just for myself but for my wife and my kids as well.”
Mark turns to his fans knowing that since 1998 his supporters had been with him through the good and the bad then and will be now.
The question is; why would the club fire Petke?
We know that Red Bull’s management had never really taken to Petke. “On behalf of the New York Red Bulls, I want to thank Mike for his service to the club these past two seasons as head coach,” said Sporting Director Ali Curtis. “Mike will always be an important member of the Red Bull family.” This being the short, simple statement made regarding the situation and only fueled the fire even more, as there is still no reasons to answer the question of why.
As for Mike, he has gained a lot of sympathy, but has made no cruel statements towards the club management. He only sends his highest regards and best of luck to the team. Mike has a love for the team that will never die, leaving with his heart full.
In regards to the club management, leaving many skeptical could have sent more sympathy to Mike and his supporters. The management saying little to nothing has kept the fans on their toes, looking for an explanation yet to be given, has left the reputation low. While fans still support the team, the support given to management has been significantly lower.
As a recommendation to management, questions need to answered, with no reason to fire Petke, why do it, when he brought the team to a new level. As a coach that took the hearts of many fans, we will always wonder, till the question is answered.

This ad will be 30 seconds. The demographics of this ad is to 18-32 year olds, within this age group life tends to be more stressful and we tend to have a lot on our hands. This ad will work because we are trying to recreate childhood memories where stress was little, our responsibilities were low and all we did was play with toys such as race cars and airplanes. As a little kid and sometimes now when we receive packages that aren’t our, and as a kid wanted to rip them open to see what was inside, and that is what the little kid is doing in this scene. By the sounds of quickness it represents the speedy delivery of two day shipping with two different sounds, and the sound of freshness as you open the package represents quality care.
